Santorini Food Guide

Santorini is easily one of the most popular Greek islands, known for its incredible cliff views, white cave hotels and blue domes. Because Santorini is so popular it definitely runs a bit more expensive than some of the other islands. I was determined to visit Santorini without breaking the bank and it was also one of our longest stays so I knew it would be a bit difficult.

Pito Gyros

If you try one restaurant from this list it should definitely be Pito Gyros. I had pretty high hopes going into my experience at Pito Gyros and they did not disappoint! This restaurant came highly recommended as one of the best gyro spots on the island and I couldn’t agree more.

We ended up ordering the chicken gyros and french fries, which were absolutely delicious and the perfect meal after a 10 km walk! Everything was made fresh, tasted great and the prices were reasonable! The entire menu sounded great and will definitely head back here to try some more menu items the next time we visit Santorini!

If you are planning to sit and eat then make sure you have a bit of extra time as there will most definitely be a wait for a table. You can opt to get take-out but we wanted to sit and eat as we had just hiked from Fira to Oia.

Ammoudi Fish Tavern

Ammoudi Bay restaurants are probably some of the most expensive restaurants on the island but they do come with a beautiful view! We wanted to enjoy a romantic dinner with a sunset view and Ammoudi Fish Tavern’s menu was the best fit for us. I could pretty much live off of seafood so I was pretty excited for this meal.

I ended up ordering two of my favourite things – pasta and lobster and my fiancé ordered fish. The food and beverages were delicious and I am so glad we had this experience. Do I think it’s worth all the hype and $$? Not necessarily.. I’m glad we did it but I probably won’t do it the next time we visit Santorini.

Volkan on the Rocks

We actually stumbled on Volkan during the beginning stages of our hike from Fira to Oia and what caught my eye was that they were advertising their open-air cinema night that day. I had read about open air cineams during my research but didn’t think we’d have time for it during this trip. As it turns out, a movie under the stars was the perfect way to spend our evening after such an exhausting day and better yet, they were playing Mama Mia!

With your admission for the movie comes a sampler plate of pita and spreads. We also ended up ordering their assorted sausages platter and everything was delicious! Both platters were amazing and the entire experience was incredible.

If you’re looking for a quiet evening, I definitely recommend heading to Volkan for one of their open-air cinemas and if you go early enough you can grab dinner before the show!

Svoronos Bakery

Svoronos was our go-to spot for breakfast! This little bakery had just about anything you can imagine and everything was baked freshly! We’d usually stop in before heading out for the day and pick up some pastries – my favourite was the chocolate croissants, but there is something for everyone.

Svoronos can be a pretty busy spot so leave a bit of extra time just in case there is a long line!

Lucky’s Souvlakis

Lucky’s is easily one of the best spots to grab a gyro in Fira and it’s definitely popular because there is always a line up no matter what time you go so be prepared for a bit of a wait but the food will definitely be worth it!

Chillbox

I have a weak spot for ice/cream or frozen yogurt stores and with Chillbox just a short walk from our hotel I practically lived there. The frozen yogurt is delicious and there are tons of options for toppings. Chillbox is the perfect place to stop on a warm afternoon when strolling around Fira.
