Canmore is a stunning mountain town located approximately 20 minutes from downtown Banff. It is the perfect place to make your home base while visiting the nearby National Parks. If you do end up making Canmore your base, then these six Canmore restaurants are a must-visit during your stay!
There are tons of great restaurant options for you try while you’re here and these are just a few of my favourites! Many of the restaurants here also come with stunning mountain views. Hopefully you love these restaurants as much as I did!
The Wood Restaurant & Lounge

Wood Restaurant was hands down my favourite restaurant in Canmore. The laid-back atmosphere, unassuming food and outdoor terrace put this restaurant at the top of my list. Located on 8th street, it has some of the best mountain views in downtown Canmore. The food might just be as good as the views here. The service was great even though they were super busy and it wasn’t a long wait for the food. If I had been staying in Canmore a little bit longer, I definitely would have been back to try something else from the menu!
If you only want to check out one of the restaurants on this list then this is the one you have to try. It is a busy spot so make sure you make a reservation so you don’t have to wait too long. The place was packed when I was there but it was definitely worth the wait for a table.
Tavern 1883
Tavern 1883 is another great pub with a low-key atmosphere, great pub food and a rotating craft beer selection. If you are a beer drinker, you will enjoy the large range of beers from Alberta and British Columbia. They are known for the elk burger but there are tons of other great options if you aren’t feeling that adventurous.
They also host various events such as a Jam Night, trivia and bingo if you are looking for something fun to do. Their Instagram is frequently updated with all of the events and promotions they are running so make sure you check it out.
Rocky Mountain Bagel Company

Canmore is home to two mouth-watering locations serving up the freshest bagels I have ever tasted. They are open for breakfast and lunch and are always busy so you may have to wait a bit. For lunch, they are also serving bagelwiches and open-faced bagels if you can’t get enough of their fresh bagels.
If you are going to be in Canmore for several days, I recommend buying a bulk order of bagels and cream cheese. This way you can eat them throughout the week. They also have tons of tasty treats or much needed coffee.
Iron Goat Pub & Grill
Iron Goat Pub is another unique Canmore restaurant with a three-story bar with a winding wooden staircase and beautiful mountain views. The food is great and there are several unique Canadian dishes worth trying. The duck wings, bison burger or the meatloaf are some of the most popular options you should try.
There are tons of great options to try and the cozy atmosphere makes it a great place to unwind after a long day of hiking!
The Grizzly Paw Pub

The Grizzly Paw Pub is a Canmore staple and one of the most popular places to eat. It has tons of local beer and ciders and all of your favourite pub foods! It is a large pub with two levels and a good-sized outdoor patio. There is a great selection of apps, burgers, sandwiches and main dishes like fish n’ chips or ribs for you to try.
They have been serving up delicious pub food for nearly 30 years so I definitely recommend checking them out. If you are here during peak times, make sure you make a reservation.
Rocky Mountain Flatbread
This is a great spot to try if you want some pizza. The pizzas are made in their wood fired pizza oven with the freshest local toppings. I would argue that Rocky Mountain Flatbread serving up the best and freshest pizzas in Canmore. If you don’t feel like pizza, they do offer a few pasta dishes you can choose from instead but the pizza really is the star of the show!
If you are looking for a quick but good lunch restaurant this is one of the best options. It doesn’t take long to cook flatbreads in the wood fired oven so service is usually pretty quick here. The restaurant also has view of Ha Ling Peak, which can be seen through several garage doors and plenty of windows.
