What to do in Nassau, Bahamas

The Bahamas is hands down one of my favourtie places to visit in the Caribbean. Travelling to the Bahamas had always been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. When I finally had the opportunity to visit I wanted to make sure I got to see as much of the island as I could.

I was pretty nervous when I first arrived, as this was the very first trip I had planned on my own and only my second trip EVER! I quickly realized that Bahamians were some of the nicest people I had ever met! Everyone we met during this trip was extremely nice and helpful. One of the most important things for me when travelling is feeling safe. I have actually never felt so safe in another country as I did when I was in the Bahamas. The people I encountered during my trip made my week in the Bahamas unforgettable.

Catamaran

Catamarans are actually one of my favourite things to do when I go on vacation.  I absolutely love being in the ocean and the unlimited booze definitely doesn’t hurt as well. The men running our catamaran were all very friendly, provided great service and made sure we were all having a great time.

For this catamaran, a bus picked us up from our hotel and brought us to our meeting spot where we got on the catamaran. Our catamaran took us cruising around the island until we finally reached a good place for snorkeling. Our catamaran also included a bbq lunch and unlimited beverages, which is definitely a plus after snorkeling for most of the morning.

I usually try to book a catamaran the docks on a beach so I can also have some time to relax and catch some rays or take a break from the sun and enjoy some shade. This is definitely my preference so I strongly suggest checking out a few different catamarans and choosing the one that meets your own needs!

Swimming with the Pigs

Although we didn’t have the opportunity to swim with the pigs while we were here I’ve definitely received a lot of recommendations and positive reviews from fellow travellers. Swimming with the pigs will definitely be on my activity list the next time we are in the Bahamas!

Bus Tour

Taking a bus tour was actually one of the best things we decided to do while we were in the Bahamas. The bus tour was a half-day (approximately 2.5 hours) and was arranged through our hotel. We got picked up at our hotel and began the tour right away. The tour was actually quite informative and I didn’t realize how many fascinating landmarks there were in the Bahamas.

Our first stop along the bus tour was Fort Charlotte. We took a quick tour around   the fort and checked out the shops set up in the parking lot. This was actually where I found some very nice wind chimes for my mother to bring back as a gift for taking care of my pugalicous’. We continued around Nassau checking out various legislative buildings, churches, Court and the straw market! The straw market was pretty cool so I’d definitely recommend checking it out.

We actually covered quite a bit of ground in the 2.5 hour tour and got to see and learn more about how people live their daily lives in Nassau.

Explore the Shops

After we finished the bus tour we decided to grab a cab and head back to the shopping center to continue to explore the different shops. We walked around the various shops and took our time looking at all the different items.  It was pretty cool to walk around the town and take the time to enjoy Nassau. There were many different places to eat and drink at but we didn’t make any stops as we had eaten before we left the hotel.

Travelling to Nassau, Bahamas was definitely one of my favourite places to visit. I certainly wouldn’t hesitate to go back, but I will definitely have to check out Exuma, Bahamas before making a second stop at Nassau!
