Milos is one of the most beautiful islands in Greece and is home to over 70 incredible beaches! It was my goal to explore as many beautiful beaches as I possibly could during my 3 days on the island. Milos turned out to be my favourite island we visited during our 17 days in Greece and the beaches were definitely one of the main reasons for this.
Since there’s so many beaches to explore in Milos here’s a guide to the top beaches!
Firiplaka Beach
Firiplaka Beach is hands down my absolute favourite beach in Milos! The water and scenery is so breathtaking I actually found myself getting emotional when leaving the beach!
If I ever get the opportunity to go to Firiplaka Beach I would definitely do it completely different. This beach is absolutely incredible so here is my recommendation! Wake up early, pack your lunch, snacks and an umbrella and head to the beach. Although there isn’t really anything around Firiplaka Beach (which is why I recommend packing a lunch and snacks), I could easily spend the entire day there. There is also only about 6 beach umbrellas set up along the beach and no trees for shade so bringing a beach umbrella is an absolute MUST!
This was definitely my favourite part of Milos and will definitely go back in a heartbeat! I definitely wish I would have planned an extra day or two in Milos just so I could have spent an entire day here but I definitely no better for next time!
Kleftiko Caves
Kleftiko Caves is a stunning spot of rock formations that is only reachable by boat. There are several different boat tours that will bring you to Kleftiko Caves.
Unfortunately it was pretty windy while we were in Milos so we didn’t have the opportunity to check out the Kleftiko Caves but it is definitely near the top of my list for when I go back to Milos!
If you are looking for a suggestion for which boat tour to take I would recommend this one at Get Your Guide
Tsigrado Beach
Tsigrado Beach is definitely a bit harder to get to, as it is only accessible by two narrow ladders. It is located on the southern part of the island beside Firiplaka Beach
Tsigrado Beach is a small white sand beach with clear waters but absolutely no shade so make sure to pack an umbrella if you want some shade.
Like Firiplaka Beach there is no food and beverage options close by so make sure to pack some food and water if you plan on staying for a while.
Pro Tip: When packing, remember you have to take 2 narrow ladders to get down to this beach so you’ll most likely only be able to bring what you can pack in a backpack as you will want to have your hands free while using the ladder.
Sarakiniko Beach
Sarakiniko Beach is actually what first drew me to the island of Milos. During my extensive research, Sarakiniko Beach kept coming up. The crystal clear blue water and the moon like landscapes looked incredible and as it continuously came up in my research I knew I had to go!
Sarakiniko Beach is located on the Northern part of Milos so if it’s a windy day that means the water will be rough and you most likely won’t have the opportunity to venture out into the deep water or do any cliff jumping as it is just not safe!
Most beach goers set up their towels on the moonscape as there isn’t much of a beach and there is only one tree that provides shade. Keep in mind that if you do want some shade there you’ll either have to show up early to get a spot under the tree or bring an umbrella and set up on the beach. For those looking to lie out in the sun and get tan there is tons of room on the moonscape to lie out your towel and enjoy the sun.
The closest thing to food at Sarakiniko Beach is a small food truck in the parking lot before you start your journey down to the beach. They have lots of drinks, snacks and a few different sandwiches/hotdogs and isn’t actually as overpriced as you would think.
Sarakiniko Beach is extremely beautiful and has tons of spots to explore so I highly recommend checking it out.
Papafragas Beach
Papafragas Beach is another beautiful beach located on the Northern part of the island just West of Pollonia. Papafragas beach resembles two fingers so there is actually different areas to swim in so make sure you check out both!
Like many of the beach there isn’t any food options close by. The closest restaurants would be located in Pollonia, which I highly recommend checking out.
Palicochori Beach
Palicochori Beach is located on the Southern part of Milos and is set up perfectly for all your touristy needs! Since it is located on the Southern part of the island it is the perfect beach for any of those windy days in Milos! Like many beaches in Milos it has crystal clear water and perfect sand but offers a different and unique backdrop to enjoy while lying out in the sun!
There are tons of beach chairs and umbrellas that you can rent for the day and tons of restaurants along the beach. The coolest thing about this beach is that local restaurants will actually cook your food in the sand (in tin foil of course), which is a cool experience in itself!
Pollonia Beach
Pollonia Beach is located in the village of Pollonia and was literally right across the road from our hotel, which was amazing! Pollonia is a small village located on the North East side of the island. Pollonia Beach isn’t actually that big but I also didn’t find it was super crowded because a lot of people tend to venture out of Pollonia during the day to check out other beaches or villages. There are plenty of trees for shade and if you walk a bit further down the beach to where there are restaurants, some have beach chairs set up for customers with service to the beach.
There are plenty of spots for food and drink along the beach, which makes it easy to spend hours here. This is usually where we went for some time to relax on the beach when we were tired of all the crowded touristy spots.
Mandrakia Beach
Mandrakia Beach is a picturesque fishing port located on the Northern part of the island. There was only a few people here when we were there in the middle of the afternoon so it is definitely a spot less traveled and the perfect place to visit if you are looking for a quiet less touristy place to spend the afternoon!
Also at Mantrakia Beach you will find the restaurant Medusa. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the opportunity to eat here but I have heard many great reviews and would definitely recommend trying it out. Located along the sea, you can enjoy your dinner while the waves crash against the wall below.
I literally cannot praise the island of Milos enough! It completely succeeded my expectations and I completely fell in love with this island. I will most definitely be back to visit and will make sure to plan a longer stay the next time I come back!
