Hillhuas Domes are a set of 3 geodesic domes located in the wilderness approximately 15 minutes from Shawville, Quebec. This is a great place for anyone looking to get away for a weekend or longer. Anyone who knows me knows that I do NOT camp, but this was the perfect compromise allowing me to relax, enjoy nature and unplug from the world after a busy year.
There are three identical domes on the property that you can choose to book from each with the same offerings and the same price.
What is included?
Each dome is equipped with two beds (king in the loft and a queen murphy bed), one bathroom and a kitchenette. Depending on the season, there is a woodstove and heaters or an air conditioner to ensure optimal comfort.
Outside the dome is a beautiful patio with a dining area, BBQ, firepit and hot tub with tons of privacy. In the summer you can enjoy paddleboarding or pedal boating on the lake and in the winter, you can enjoy snow shoeing on one of the many hiking trails on the 160 acres of land. You do not have to worry about bringing your own firewood as there is plenty on site.
Since you will not have a fully operational kitchen, I recommend bringing food that can be cooked on the BBQ, over an open fire or in the toaster oven. As I was there by myself, it was easy for me to make most of my meals using the toaster oven, but if I was to come back with anyone, I would plan all of my meals using the BBQ as that would be the easiest. The fridge has only a small freezer section so I don’t recommend bringing many freezer items as you will only have enough space for 1 or 2 small items, depending on the size.
Surrounding Area
There are restaurants located in Shawville that you can go to if you don’t feel like cooking but I certainly didn’t feel like leaving the comfort of the dome to head into town for a meal. If you do decide to head into town for a meal, I would recommend checking out Ladysmith Hotel or the Pontiac Bakery.
Shawville does have a Giant Tiger and other stores so if there are any essentials you forgot to pack you can head back to town and pick up anything you need.
I cannot wait to come back here again soon! The two days I spent here were super relaxing and I can see myself coming back each season to experience something new. I definitely plan to come back in the fall to enjoy the fall foliage and some of the hiking trails! No matter what season you decide to visit in, I am sure you will have a wonderful time relaxing in the beautiful outdoors.
